Make A Play Garden This Spring

August 07, 2017 at 4:00 PM

Make-a-sensory-play-garden-for-kids.jpgSpring is a fantastic time of year for you to start getting outside more. This blog should inspire you to get out and create with the family!

Make a dedicated play garden for the neighbourhood children to grow plants, enjoy sensory play and have a digging patch of their very own! This is perfect for toddlers and preschoolers to get stuck into gardening and enjoy outdoor play every day.

With Spring finally here, breathing a wonderfully sunny warmth and life into everything, you can try to get out into the park and the garden for longer each day.

Step one is creating the space you need.  A-play-garden-for-children.jpg

Use whatever you have on hand, old bricks, left over garden edging, whatever you can find. else you will need. Eg Some low fencing on a roll, a bag of compost, a few plants and some kiddie tools.

Put the fencing around the semi-circle and leave a little gap for getting in and out. Make sure you leave plenty of space for the mud cakes!

Here you can see some pretty pink flowers planted in a newly painted pot. (Another blog for another day!)

And don't forget to add some mini-tools for digging in the mud and a small watering can if you can find one.

Garden pebbles can add to the fun, then grab the picnic set and make a weekend of it. Have a great time adding some instruments, opportunities for outdoor art, growing some vegetables and making a lovely, playful, imaginative mess together.

It won't take long for this space to become a favorite and you will love seeing it developed into their very own special place.
